Samsung Galaxy S8 rumoured to ditch physical buttons and support S Pen accessory
Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumoured to support S Pen as an external accessory
Samsung Galaxy S8 might finally embrace a feature found only on the Korean smartphone maker's Note series. While the plans are still sketchy, there is a possibility that Galaxy S8 might support S Pen as an external accessory. Earlier in the week, a report emerged that Samsung decided against adding S Pen feature to the next generation Galaxy S series flagship. A new report now suggests Samsung will offer S Pen as one of the accessories for the Galaxy S8, which makes sense considering the device is expected to feature a huge 6-inch display. It is unclear what the price would be for S Pen as an accessory.
Post the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, there were rumours that Samsung will kill the Galaxy Note lineup altogether and introduce only one flagship every year. With Galaxy S8 getting support for S Pen, Samsung will somehow be addressing the needs of those S Pen users looking at a replacement for the Galaxy Note 7.The company is reportedly testing multiple prototypes of the Galaxy S8 smartphone, with one of the models featuring a 6-inch display, and having an overall footprint similar to that of the Galaxy Note 7.
Samsung is widely rumoured to introduce the Galaxy S8 with thin bezels and according to Android Police's David Ruddock, the smartphone will ditch all the physical buttons in favour of soft keys. He quotes sources saying Samsung will use soft keys with 3D Touch-like functionality.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is undoubtedly one of the most well designed smartphone of 2016, and if runours of the Galaxy S8 turn out to be true, then we are already looking at a device that will set a new benchmark for smartphone design. While previous rumours tip the Galaxy S8 to come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor, there is probably a Exynos-powered variant in the works too.
Another leak originating from China also hints at Samsung working on two variants of Exynos 8895-based Galaxy S8 smartphones. The devices are rumoured to be powered by Exynos 8895M and Exynos 8895V processors, which differ in terms of their clock frequency. Anticipation for the Galaxy S8 has seen new highs post Samsung's failure with the Galaxy Note 7. The smartphone is rumoured to launch at a dedicated event in New York in April. Samsung, which has completed the investigation into Galaxy Note 7's battery failure is reportedly taking cautionary approach before the launch of one of its most important flagship devices for the coming year.
