Samsung Galaxy S8 leak from Evan Blass confirms specifications along with March 29 as the launch date
Samsung Galaxy S8 is tipped to come in 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screen sizes with rear fingerprint sensors. Evan Blass also confirmed launch date as March 29. Here's a low-down on all that's been leaked about the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Samsung is set to unveil its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8 on March 29 and the devices are expected to go on sale from April 27. While we have seen multiple leaks in the past, the new leak could well be the best look yet at the smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expecetd to come only with the Edge screen, and not a flatscreen variant like Galaxy S7. A recent leak indicated the smartphone might be as big as the current generation Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, but feature 5.8 and 6.2-inch screen sizes. VentureBeat now reports that the displays will come with an unusual aspect ratio of 18.5:9 similar to the 2:1 aspect ratio that the upcoming LG G6's 5.7-inch QHD+ IPS display is tipped to sport.
Samsung Galaxy S8 may also be the first smartphone to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset, but the device may also be made available with Exynos chipsets in some regions. "Performance-wise, this is said to make them 11 percent faster than the Galaxy S7 overall, with 23 percent faster graphics processing, but still 20 percent more energy efficient," notes VentureBeat.
As far as other hardware components are concerned, the Galaxy S8 is tipped to come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage in the standard version. The two devices are tipped to be 3000mAh and 3500mAh on the 5.8 and 6.2-inch variants respectively. The smartphone is also expecetd to come with a USB-C port for charging and data transfer.

As The Guardian reported few days back, the Galaxy S8 will feature the same 12MP rear camera, with f/1.7 aperture and dual pixel autofocus like Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, but improvements are being touted in departments like picture quality and colour balance. The camera will also be capable of visual search and text recognition, while the front camera is expected to get an upgrade to 8MP as opposed to 5MP on the previous S7 series.
Other notable design changes include ommission of the home button, but there is still an iris scanner placed next to the selfie camera. VentureBeat notes that the Galaxy S8 series will use a rear fingerprint sensor, placed next to the rear camera and not optical sensor embedded under the glass.
Samsung is expected to showcase new software features with the help of Bixby AI assistant. Bixby is expected to be similar to Google Assistant and Apple's Siri on the basic level, but come with deep integrations with native apps and other Google Play apps. Samsung bought VIV, the developers of Siri and it is expected to be the showstopper at the S8 launch this year. Another new addition this year is expected to be a desktop dock named Samsung DeX, which will essentially convert the Galaxy S8 into an Android desktop. The Guardian reports that the implementation will be similar to Microsoft's Continuum dock.
Samsung recently announced the cause for the Galaxy Note 7's battery failure and also detailed how it plans to ensure that the same issue is not repeated with Galaxy S8. With infinity edge display, improved camera, a faster processor, an AI assistant and desktop dock, the Galaxy S8 could become the most important smartphone launch of 2017.
