Samsung Galaxy S8 has leaked once again in the form of press renders. The latest leak seems to be straight from Samsung's own press materials, and is dated March 29. The smartphone will be made official on March 29 at an event in New York.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ leaked specifications hint at the device sporting 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch displays respectively. Both the handsets are expected to have dimensions similar to that of the existing S7 and S7 Edge variants. Samsung is also rumoured to drop the regular variant and announce the Galaxy S8 series only with curved edge displays only.
The press render, posted by Evan Blass, confirms Samsung will drop the home button and move the fingerprint sensor to the back. The render also shows a volume rocker and power button on the left side, while a dedicated button to launch Bixby, the company's rumoured AI assistant is placed on the right. Apart from hardware specifications, the Galaxy S8's main attraction is expected to be the new AI assistant. The AI assistant is reportedly based on the VIV platform and will offer features like visual search and text recognition.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be the first smartphones to be available with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 chipset. However, the device will be launched in select markets with the company's own Exynos 9 processor. The standard variant is expected to offer 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. Both the models will be IP68 water and dust resistant and will support wireless charging.
The Galaxy S8 series will launch with a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. There aren't much details on the cameras, but Samsung is expected to improve the sensors with support for better colour reproduction. Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will support iris scanner for facial unlock and rumours hint at the introduction of a dock that will turn the Galaxy S8 into a desktop computer running Android. Both the Exynos 9 and Snapdragon 835 have built-in VPUs, which should be used for camera enhancement as well.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ may be cheaper than Google's Pixel and iPhone 7 range at the time of launch. Samsung is assuring that the smartphone's battery won't explode this time.
