Samsung Galaxy S8 might launch earlier than expected due to Note 7 fiasco
Analyst says that launching the device late might affect the profitability of Samsung's mobile business division.
After the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung might be looking to rebuild its brand reputation by advancing the launch of its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8. Kim Sang-pyo, an analyst at KB Investment & Securities, told Korea Herald that an early launch of the Galaxy S8 might mitigate the damage caused by the Note 7. “If Samsung’s flagship smartphone launch is delayed to the end of the first quarter of next year, the profitability of the mobile business division could be worsened next year.” Sang-pyo said.
In related news, SamMobile claims to have got the model numbers for two variants of the Galaxy S8. As per its report, the phones have the model numbers SM-G950 and SM-G955, and are internally known as Dream and Dream2. According to earlier reports, Samsung was planning to ditch the flat-screened variant on flagship Galaxy S smartphones, and only offer curved screen variants, similar to what it did what the Galaxy Note 7. It’s possible that the new phones may offer different screen sizes. The display itself is tipped to be VR-ready with 4K resolution, and may feature a dual-rear camera setup consisting of 12MP and 13MP cameras. Further, it may sport an iris scanner, like the one found on the Galaxy Note 7.
