Samsung Galaxy S8 might feature 2K display, no home button
The company was expected to switch to a 4K display with its next flagship smartphone
Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, might come with a 2K display and no home button. Citing sources in the supply chain, a user on Weibo claims that the company will not switch to a 4K display and instead will stick to a 2K display. The user also notes that suppliers have not received components for the home button. So it’s possible that the phone may not come with a physical home button.
The Galaxy S8 has been tipped to feature a 4K display that is designed for VR. Earlier this year, Samsung had showcased a 5.5-inch 4K display with a pixel density of 806ppi. The high pixel density is aimed at making images appear crisper. The company also showcased a technology called Bio Blue, which reduces blue light level in displays. This potentially reduces eye strains caused by VR.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the S8 might feature an edge-to-edge OLED display with a high screen-to-body ratio. The company also showed concept image of a Galaxy S7 Edge without a home button. Samsung added that all the sensors, such as the fingerprint sensor, would be built under the display.
