Samsung Galaxy S8 may sport Exynos 8895 SoC with focus on UHD and VR content
The new chipset is tipped to feature ARM’s new Mali-G71 GPU, which is reportedly 1.8 times faster than the Mali-T880
Samsung hasn’t had the best few months as its new flagship device, the Galaxy Note 7 has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Reports have also surfaced that Samsung might launch its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8, earlier than planned in order to mitigate the damage the Galaxy Note 7, caused to its brand reputation. Now though, a report by Sammobile gives us some new information about the upcoming flagship devices, more specifically, its processor and GPU.
As per the report, the upcoming phone will use an Exynos 8895 SoC, which will reportedly be based on a 10nm manufacturing process. Further, the new SoC may sport ARM’s new Mali-G71 GPU. The new GPU is believed to be up to 1.8 times faster than the Mali-T880 GPU used by the Exynos 8890 chipset. Further, the new GPU is reportedly faster than the one that will be used in Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 830.
The Mali-G71 GPU will be the first GPU to use ARM’s new Bifrost architecture. The GPU is aimed at offering UHD and VR experiences and is also compatible with Vulkan, OpenGL ES 3.2, GPU Compute and Android RenderScript APIs. It runs at 850MHz and is manufactured using the 16nm FinFET process. The use of a powerful GPU makes sense considering that the Galaxy S8 is tipped to use a 4K display that is aimed at VR. The company already showcased such a display back in May this year.
