Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the first major release from the company since Galaxy Note7 went in flames and it seems the device won't arrive at Mobile World Congress. According to reports at Sammobile, Samsung Galaxy S8 launch is expected to be delayed till late March or early April. This coincides with a similar report from Wall Street Journal which claimed the launch will be delayed by at least two weeks.
Samsung has very recently concluded full investigation of Galaxy Note7's battery issue and the company would like to fix every possible flaw before going to market with its next flagship. The delayed launch is also meant to increase consumer confidence levels, which is definitely low after the whole Note7 fiasco.
Samsung is looking at launching Galaxy S8 at a dedicated event in New York in April but there are internal arguments about an early launch. Samsung has lost a significant ground in terms of financial momentum with its Galaxy Note7 failure and the company is expected to deliver weak set of numbers with its Q4 earnings. In order to keep the sales ticking, Samsung has offered Galaxy S7 edge in colour variants, a move aimed at the popularity of iPhone 7's Jet Black and Black colour options.
In another report originating from Korea, Samsung Galaxy S8 is tipped to be expensive than its predecessor. According to ChoiceNews, the handset is likely to cost between 15 percent and 20 percent more than the Galaxy S7 owing to increased prices of raw materials. The ChoiceNews quotes Goldman Sachs analysts expecting the pricing to be higher than current flagship devices.
For Samsung, Galaxy S8 needs to mainstream technology the company failed to deliver with Note7. For once, Galaxy Note7 introduced new Y-OCTA display and even added Iris scanner and Galaxy S8 will feature the same technology at the time of launch.
Samsung Galaxy S8 is tipped to come with 5.7-inch display with bezel less design and the device is also rumoured to embed the fingerprint sensor under the glass. Samsung might end up delivering a really stunning smartphone in terms of design but consumers would want the device to perform out in the world and most importantly not end up going in flames.
