Samsung Galaxy S8 launch confirmed for March 29 in New York
Samsung Galaxy S8 will likely fix the flaws noticed in the Galaxy Note 7 and win back consumers' trust, which has hit rock bottom of late
Samsung will announce its Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone on March 29 in New York. The company has put out a teaser for the launch event, accompanied by a video, which hints at the S8's slim bezels. The Galaxy S8 will be a big moment in the company's history, especially after the debacle with the Galaxy Note 7. The 2017 flagship, Galaxy S8 will be aimed to fix all the flaws that killed the Galaxy Note7. With S8, Samsung also needs to win back the trust of consumers which has hit rock bottom.
Samsung Galaxy S8, like the LG G6 launched yesterday at MWC, will house a large display in a compact form factor. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are tipped to feature a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED curved edge display. The handsets are likely to be the first to get Snapdragon 835 while there will be an Exynos variant as well.
The Galaxy S8's main attraction is rumoured to be a new AI assistant named Bixby. While Bixby will accept voice commands and offer replies to queries, it is also expected to do visual search right within the camera app. Other leaks hint at 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and 3500mAh battery on the larger S8+ variant. Samsung is also likely to introduce a new dock that will convert the phone into a desktop device, a very Microsoft-like approach. The implementation is expected to mimic Microsoft's Continuum and Samsung might include the dock with the S8.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are expected to be cheaper than Google's Pixel and iPhone 7 lineup at the time of launch. None of this information is confirmed yet and we will know official details on March 29.
