As expected, Samsung has announced two new phones, the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge, moments ago at a pre-MWC event. The two phones feature similar specification sheet, and are powered by a Exynos 8890 SoC. It was long rumoured that the phone will feature the Exynos 8890 and with the official launch concluded, almost all rumours have come out to be true. The two new phones will be coming to US on March 11th and we expect both to come to India in a few months.
As rumoured, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge come with 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch displays respectively, with both featuring 2K resolution. As mentioned, the choice of SoC is Samsung's own 8890 SoC. This is an octa-core SoC and uses a di-quad core processor cluster setup in big.LITTLE architecture. This is also the first time, Samsung has come up with a custom chip, and one of the two four cluster use Samsung'Âs new Mongoose cores. Other than that, there is 4GB of RAM and both phones come with 32GB of base storage. The new phones also have a microSD card as well.
Rumours were also right about the camera and the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are sporting the new 12MP 'dual-pixel'Â sensor. This sensor might be smaller but Samsung claims larger pixel let in 56 percent more light and comes with a f/1.7 aperture. It is also smaller in size and consumes less battery. As for the front-facing camera, the phone has a wide-angle 5MP camera. Powering the Samsung Galaxy S7 is a 3000mAh battery and the S7 Edge comes with a 3600mah Battery.
Apart from that Samsung has carried over the fingerprint sensor. Both phones are also waterproof and come with IP68 certification which means the phones can last in upto 1.5 metres of water in 30 minutes at a time. The new phones are running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with TouchWiz Ui on top of it.
