Samsung Galaxy S5 gets new performance boosting update
New 200 MB update for European Galaxy S5 reportedly improves fingerprint scanner, makes phone faster.
The carrier unlocked variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 in Europe is receiving an update that improves the smartphone’s performance. According to Android Central, the firmware update XXU1ANG2 claims to include performance tweaks and updates and it does actually appear to make the smartphone feel a little bit faster for general usage.
The update is being shipped to the Galaxy S5 in two steps, the first, a relatively large 194 MB download followed by a 1 MB one. Apart from the performance tweaks, comments on the Android Central story claim that the update also makes the Galaxy S5’s fingerprint scanner more accurate and sensitive, and brings minor changes to some default apps and widgets including the weather app.
Since these updates have been rolled out to unlocked Galaxy S5 units, it seems likely that they will be released for India as well. Although Samsung hasn’t revealed any timelines, we expect the updates to make their way to India in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, you can manually check for the updates on your Galaxy S5 in the Software Update section of the About Phone menu within Settings.
