As expected, Samsung has officially slashed price of its older flagships Galaxy S4 and S4 mini in India. The Samsung Galaxy S4 is now listed on the company’s official e-store for Rs. 31,814, while the S4 mini is listed at Rs. 19,278.
Samsung had launched the Galaxy S4 last year for Rs. 41,500, while the S4 mini launched with a price tag of Rs. 27,900. However, the smartphones saw a major price cut ahead of the launch of the new flagship, S5. The Galaxy S4 was recently spotted on e-commerce websites with price around Rs.30,000.
It’s worth pointing out here Samsung’s new flagship smartphone, S5, continues to be available online below the official price tag (Rs. 51,000). Flipkart is selling the white model for Rs. 40,990, while Snapdeal is selling the Black model for Rs. 39,431. However, Samsung has maintained that there’s no official price cut for its new flagship smartphone.
Samsung in a statement said: “Samsung Electronics’ flagship smartphone, which was launched in March 2014, continues to be priced at Rs. 51,500. Galaxy Gear 2 is priced at Rs. 21,900 and both Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and Galaxy Gear Fit are priced at Rs. 15,900 each. This pricing is based on robust demand and increasing sales. The company further added that reports claiming Samsung Electronics has revised prices of Galaxy S5 are false and baseless. Galaxy S5 was made available in India through Samsung’s retail stores and online sites starting April 11, 2014.”
With the official price cut of the S4 and S4 mini, Samsung will hope to increase its share in the crowded Rs. 20,000-30,000 segment. Do you think Samsung should further bring down the price of its new flagship smartphone as well? Let us know your views in the comments section below:
