Samsung Galaxy S unlikely to receive ICS or Value Pack update: Report

Updated on 05-Jan-2012

Samsung’s flip flop on its ICS upgrade plans for the Galaxy S has continued. Samsung earlier said it was not giving the ICS update to the Galaxy S but would make up with a Value Pack update. And now the company has said the Galaxy S devices will not get the Value Pack upgrade as well.

Back in December, Samsung released an official statement, confirming it was not going to provide the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update to its Galaxy S devices. Later, reports said that Samsung was going to pass a value pack update instead of a full-fledged ICS update. According to The Next Web, Samsung is reconsidering its decision to provide the value pack update due to incompatibility with the hardware specifications of the older Galaxy devices. The TNW report quotes a Samsung spokesperson saying that the Galaxy devices were fully optimised for the Gingerbread experience.

The news is certainly going to disappoint the Galaxy enthusiasts. However, those Galaxy S users that want the ICS update could use the CM9 port for the phone. Meanwhile, CNET reports Samsung Galaxy Ace and Samsung Galaxy Tab will not receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update.
