Looks like the rumours were correct. Screenshots – of what is claimed to be the Samsung Galaxy S IV – leaked to the blog, Sam Mobile, and show that the upcoming flagship Android phone from Samsung will indeed have the Smart Scroll and Smart Pause features. We had reported yesterday that an unnamed Samsung executive revealed the existence of these two features to the New York Times, although at that time, the features were referred to as ‘Eye Scroll’ and ‘Eye Pause.’
Smart Scroll is a feature that lets users scroll textual content on the device using only their eyes. The front camera on the Galaxy S IV will track users’ eye movements and scroll the page they’re looking at according to their reading speed. Smart Pause is a simple feature that pauses the video the moment you look away from the display.
Although these features sound neat in theory, we aren’t losing our minds in excitement (yet). Samsung’s inconsistent implementation of the Smart Stay feature on the Galaxy S III have made us wary of how efficiently these features will work since they essentially rely on the same technology that powers Smart Stay. Samsung will have to address issues like poor performance in low-light, poor performance for spectacled users and overall buggy performance that Galaxy S III users have been complaining about, to ensure that both Smart Scroll and Smart Stay get positive reception.
Samsung will launch the Galaxy S IV at an event in New York on March 14.
