Samsung Galaxy S II to get Jelly Bean update soon; details revealed
HIGHLIGHTS

Galaxy S II owners rejoice! Samsung has announced the details for the Jelly Bean update for the S II, but the launch date for the update is still unknown.

Last year, Samsung promised that the S II would receive the Jelly Bean update and the Korean electronics giant has revealed that the update will be hitting devices. The launch date for the update is still unknown, but Samsung has announced details of the update.

In addition to the standard Android features brought to users via Jelly Bean (such as Project Butter and Google Now), some features of the Galaxy S III such as Smart Stay, Pop-up Play and Pause while recording video will also make their debut on the Galaxy S II.

Some other apps such as Google , Talk, Play Book and Play Movie (for regions that support them) will also come on the S II with the Android 4.1 update. The phone’s built-in storage will see a dip from 12GB to 11GB as the update will take up some space. The update will be available via Samsung’s KIES software only. This is because the update will re-partition the memory system. It will also take about one hour or even more to install in some cases.

Complete details of the update are as follows:

Major Changes in the new Software Upgrade 1 (Platform upgrade Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean): Improved Home screens and improved scrolling performance (thanks to Project Butter). Improved usability for some applications.

Preloaded applications: Help; Google ; Talk; Play Book; Play Movie

Newly added/improved functions: Easy mode, Block mode; Improved Camera functions: function like Pause while recording and more; Smart Stay; New functions like Pop-up play and more; Improved some functions & applications usability.

We do hope that the S II’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will work fine, because back in November, Samsung had suspended the OTA (Over The Air) Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III, due to bugs that were causing issues for users that had already updated their devices. You can read the details of that story here.
