Samsung Galaxy Note 8 receives over 2.5 lakh pre-orders in India: Report
Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 8 in India tomorrow. The flagship smartphone is currently available for pre-order and is expected to go on sale starting September 25.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the latest flagship smartphone from the South Korean company has broken all previous pre-order records in the United States. The company announced in a release that more people in the US have purchased the Note 8 than previous Note series phones during the same period. However, it didn't share any specific in terms of pre-order or sales number.
The Galaxy Note 8 was announced at the Unpacked event in New York on August 23. The smartphone comes as the direct replacement to last year's ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 and it is the first meaningful update to Note 5 users. Meanwhile, IANS reports that Galaxy Note 8 has received over 2.5 lakh registrations in India ahead of its launch tomorrow.
The report adds that nearly 1.5 lakh people have registered for the device on Amazon India with 72,000 of those registering for the device on the first day itself. According to industry sources, over 1 lakh people have registered for the device on Samsung India website. There has been a pent-up demand for new Galaxy Note series device since the company recalled Galaxy Note 7 due to battery issues. The pre-booking numbers clearly suggest that the Galaxy Note 8 has seen strong reception among consumers despite its premium price tag.
"Today's consumers want to do bigger things in work and life, and Note helps make that possible. We built the Galaxy Note8 for people who desire a device that lets them be productive and allows for self-expression," said Tim Baxter, President and Chief Executive Officer, Samsung Electronics North America.
The Galaxy Note 8 builds upon Samsung's Infinity Display design language first seen on Galaxy S8 series. The smartphone sports a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ display, which has been rated as the best display on a mobile device by DisplayMate. The Note 8 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform in the US while rest of the markets will get Exynos 8895 variant. The handset comes with 6GB RAM and there is an option for either 64GB or 128GB or 256GB internal storage. The Note 8 also supports expandable storage up to 256GB via dedicated SD card slot.
Apart from the design, the Galaxy Note 8's biggest selling point is the new dual rear camera setup. The smartphone features 12MP rear cameras with one wide-angle lens and another telephoto lens. The setup is similar to iPhone 7 Plus but both the lenses support optical image stabilisation. The rear camera supports 2x optical zoom and new live focus mode for clicking images with blurred background. The Note 8 also uses same 8MP front camera module also seen on the Galaxy S8 series.
Other enhancements include an improved S Pen with finer tip and support for translation features and ability to take up to 100 pages of screen off memo. The handset offers iris scanner, rear mounted fingerprint sensor and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The Note 8 houses a 3300mAh battery and will be available in black, gold, orchid grey and deep sea blue colours. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be launched in India tomorrow and it is expected to go on sale starting September 25.
