Samsung Galaxy Note 7R might be sold at half the price of original
Samsung's refurbished Galaxy Note 7 is expected to debut at the end of May or early June in South Korea and select other markets
Samsung has already confirmed its plans to launch a refurbished variant of Galaxy Note 7 with a smaller battery. The handset, codenamed Galaxy Note 7R, is said to debut in select markets in June, and a new leak has now revealed its pricing. According to The Korea Herald, the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 might launch at half the cost of original Note 7.
After the launch of Galaxy Note 7 in August last year, the company was forced to recall nearly 2.5 million handsets after it started catching fire due to battery overheating. Most reports suggest the company had produced around 4.3 million Galaxy Note 7 devices. Since the recall, the South Korean smartphone maker has announced significant measures to ensure such an issue is not repeated.
Samsung's refurbished Galaxy Note 7 launch is reportedly stuck due to environment issues and other approval processes. The Investor quotes a Samsung employee as saying that the company has "not yet decided on the phone’s launch schedule."
The refurbished Galaxy Note 7 recently received FCC certification confirming the model number for different regions. It also appeared in WiFi certification sites hinting that the device will launch first in South Korea. In terms of specifications, the handset will feature same design with 5.7-inch Quad HD display and company's own Exynos 8890 chipset. It will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and house a smaller 3200mAh battery.
