Previous rumours and reports have suggested that Samsung's upcoming smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7, will feature an iris scanner. However, while multiple images and renders of the device have been leaked, none of them have shown the feature in action. Now though, a video has been posted online by Dutch website Techtastic.nl that claims to show a user unlocking the phone using the iris scanner. Judging by the video, it seems like the feature would be able to unlock the device pretty quickly. However, it should be noted that the phone in the video has a flat screen and not a dual-curved screen that the Galaxy Note 7 is tipped to feature. It is possible that the device in the video is a prototype of the phone.
Further, Techtastic.nl also posted screenshots that seem to give information on how to use the iris scanner. As per the images, the scanner will work best when placed at a distance between 25cm and 35cm. Further, users are asked not to use the feature while wearing glasses or contact lenses. Samsung has also advised against using the iris scanner on babies. One of the screenshots suggests that the Galaxy Note 7 might come with 4GB of RAM. This might come as a disappointment to some who might be hoping that the company might join the likes of OnePlus and LeEco in releasing a device with 6GB of RAM.
To recall, Samsung has confirmed that it will launch the Galaxy Note 7 on August 2. It is speculated that the phone will sport a 5.7-inch QHD display and might be powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 821 SoC. The device is also tipped to feature a 12MP DualPixel rear camera and a 5MP front camera.
