Samsung is not slated to launch its next iteration of the Galaxy Note lineup too soon, but it is never too early for rumours. A recent one originating in China hint that Samsung’s next flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 6, will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 823 chipset, along with Adreno 530 GPU and support for up to 8GB of RAM! Overkill?
Not entirely, seeing that we have already welcomed the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite with 6GB of RAM. But, it is the prospect of Samsung powering its flagship device entirely with non-Exynos processors that make this claim debatable. The market is slowly warming up to the mighty Snapdragon 820, and even Samsung’s parallel offering, Exynos 8890. Not much has been reported on the Snapdragon 823, but rumours suggest that the 823 will be a higher-clocked version of the Snapdragon 820, running on four Kryo cores clocked at 2.6GHz. That will certainly be a serious amount of firepower.
Nevertheless, with launch dates considerably far away, we hope to receive more information in the upcoming days. As of now, Qualcomm’s flagship chipset has found place in the Xiaomi Mi 5, HTC 10 and Sony Xperia X Performance. Samsung, meanwhile, powers the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with the Exynos 8890. While much have not been revealed about the Galaxy Note 6, it has been previously expected to house a 5.8-inch display with 6GB of RAM. It is also expected to have IP68 water resistance certification.
We definitely expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 to be powerful, but if H2 2016 indeed sees a different chipset with much higher memory being released, it would negate the future-proof nature of flagship devices launched recently. Even an unknown Sony Xperia device is reportedly in works, while the X lineup of smartphones have not even made much noise yet. These factors make the rumour somewhat debatable.
