Samsung Galaxy Note 5 lands in India for R&D, as per Zauba log
Samsung’s upcoming phone Galaxy Note 5 is in India for Research and Development purposes, suggests an early launch
Recent import data confirms that a prototype of the upcoming Samsung phone SM-N920F has been shipped to India from South Korea for Research and Development purposes. Since the Galaxy Note 4 carried the model ID SM-N910F, rumours surfaced stating that this might be the Galaxy Note 5. Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has been touted for an August launch this year, rather than the usual September.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is expected to be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7422 SoC. This new SoC is stated to be an upgrade over Exynos 7420, which Samsung uses in Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6. Rumours suggest that the phone will have 4GB of RAM to bring it at par with upcoming flagship phones like the OnePlus 2. As for the display, a Super AMOLED panel with a screen size of at least 5.7 inches is expected. However, multiple rumours have suggested that the company might introduce a 4K display with the Note 5.
Samsung is expected to provide options for 32GB, 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. The rear camera is rumoured to be a 16MP sensor, like the one on Galaxy Note 4. The front-facing camera might see an upgrade to an 8MP sensor. Samsung might also launch a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. This will be a similar phone to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, with a 5.7-inch display. Samsung might also upgrade its processor to Exynos 7422. The rest of the specs are expected to remain the same.
According to Sammobile, Samsung is planning an August launch, ahead of the usual September launch, owing to Apple's iPhone 6s unveiling in September. Last year, Samsung lost most of its hype surrounding the Galaxy Note 4 due to the Apple iPhone 6 launch. Therefore, this year, Samsung is possibly preparing to launch the new Note earlier, to get a head start over Apple.
Samsung has shown a recent shift in design language, with a metal-and-glass centric design showcased on the Galaxy S6 smartphones. The company has also launched a mid-range A series of phones, featuring completely metal unibody builds. On this note, we hope the faux leather back on Note phones get an overhaul with the upcoming Note 5.
