Samsung Galaxy Fold relaunched, first international sales to begin from September 6

The Samsung Galaxy Fold has been relaunched.

The foldable smartphone will go on sale in South Korea on September 6.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be made available in select countries including France, Germany, Singapore, U.K., U.S., and more in the coming weeks.

Samsung has announced the launch of the Galaxy Fold today, on September 5. The company was previously speculated to launch the handset by the end of September, but Samsung has reintroduced it today. The foldable smartphone is all set to go on sale from tomorrow onwards in South Korea. The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be made available in select countries including France, Germany, Singapore, U.K., U.S., and more in the coming weeks.

Samsung announced the relaunch of the Galaxy Fold in a blog post and posted a new “Galaxy Fold: Official Introduction” video on its YouTube channel. 

“During the past several months, Samsung has been refining the Galaxy Fold to ensure it delivers the best possible experience. Not only we improved the Galaxy Fold’s design and construction, but also took the time to rethink the entire consumer journey,” Samsung said in a blog post

For those unaware of the Samsung Galaxy Fold fiasco, the handset malfunctioned for some reviewers soon after it was launched. This was sometime after the handset was announced at MWC 2019.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold features a  7.3-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED Display (4.2:3) Infinity Flex main display with a resolution of 2152×1536 pixels. The cover display has a 4.6'-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display at 21:9 aspect ratio, and it sports a 1680×720 pixel resolution. It is powered by a 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor, paired with 12GB RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

In the optics department, the Samsung Galaxy Fold features a total of six cameras: a 10MP selfie camera on the cover display, a dual front camera on the main display that consists of a 10MP shooter and an 8MP depth sensor, a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 16MP ultra wide camera + a 12MP wide-angle camera with Super Dual Pixel + a 12MP telephoto camera. The rear camera has features like Dual OIS, 0.5x out and 2x in optical zoom, Up to 10x digital zoom, HDR10+ recording, Tracking AF.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold packs a 4380mAh dual battery, which supports Fast Charging technology on both wired and wireless mediums. The foldable smartphone runs Android 9 Pie. On the connectivity front, the smartphone comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax HE80 MIMO, 1024QAM Bluetooth 5.0, ANT+, USB type-C, NFC, and Location (GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BeiDou). 

The Samsung Galaxy Fold LTE variant comes with one eSIM and one NAno SIM, whereas the 5G model sports one Nano SIM. The folding phone has a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the side. The sensors on this device include accelerometer, barometer, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, hall sensor, proximity sensor, and a RGB light sensor.

Previously, the Galaxy Fold was announced for EUR 2000 in Europe which converts to Rs 1,55,788 approximately in India. It is priced at $1,980 in the US, which is around Rs 1.37 lakh here. 

The Samsung Galaxy Fold India launch date is tipped to be September 27. However, this is not yet official, and we will have to wait for Samsung to announce the availability of Galaxy Fold in other regions.

Samsung is also rumoured to be working on its next foldable phone, which can be folded onto itself like a clamshell to become squarish in shape.
