Four days after the press renders of the Samsung Galaxy A8s were leaked, an image of the screen protector of the smartphone has been seen making rounds on the internet. Originally posted on Chinese microblogging website Weibo, the image shows the screen protector with a punch hole on the top left corner for the camera. There's also a small slit on the top for the earpiece, thin bezels and a chin. This is one of the four types of display designs that Samsung showcased at its annual developers conference.
The first mention of the Samsung Galaxy A8s in October was at the tail end of the launch of the Samsung Galaxy A9s smartphone in China. At that time the company did not disclose all the details about this handset, but mentioned that this particular unit would come with “first-time adoption” technology. During the developers conference, the South Korean company introduced the “Infinity O” moniker to describe a full-screen panel with a small cutout in the top-left corner to house the front-facing camera.
The recent press renders also showed an “Infinity O” type display on the Galaxy A8s with a front camera in the display and three cameras on the back. The three lenses are vertically aligned like they are in the Galaxy A7 (2018) – on the top left of the back panel. There is a small LED flash under the camera module and an elliptical fingerprint sensor in the middle. The specifications of the front and the back cameras are currently unknown but it is assumed that the Galaxy A8s will get the same camera configuration as the Galaxy A7 (2018), which is an 8MP 120-degree Ultra Wide Lens, a 5MP depth-sensing camera and a third 24MP camera on the back, and 24MP sensor on the front.
According to GizChina, the flagship Galaxy S10 will also come with an in-display camera. This falls in line with the first prototype image shared by tipster Ice Universe back in June. That prototype showed an edge-to-edge display but the punch hole camera was nowhere to be seen. Although not flawless due to the punch hole camera, this design offers something different from the notch or a pop-up camera to offer an edge-to-edge screen experience. The Galaxy A8s is rumored to come with a mid-range Snapdragon 710 chipset, paired with 6GB RAM. This smartphone could become the company’s first device to come with a 19:5:9 AMOLED display. It is expected that the device will ship with Android 9.0 Pie and a 3,000mAh battery.
