RIM launches three BlackBerry 7 OS-based smartphones: Bold 9900, Torch 9810 and 9860
RIM has launched three new smartphones bearing BlackBerry 7 OS, which, including CDMA variants for two of them, make five models in total. These could very well be five of the seven that RIM promised to bring by the end of 2011, unfortunately for those that expected more variety to come – we’ll have to wait and see what the other two bring. The traditional QWERTY but super slim BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 and 9930 we’ve seen before, the first announced devices for the BB7OS.
The new (at least officially) models are the QWERTY slider BlackBerry Torch 9810, and the full-touch Torch 9850/9860 pair. All seven models come with the speedy specs that were promised – a 1.2GHz single core processor, and 768MB of RAM. All of them bear 5MP autofocus cameras, and have Near Field Communications connectivity. Take a look at the full specs in the comparison table below.

BlackBerry 7 OS will bring a host of other enhancements of course, and is now apparently built with Liquid Graphics (which we last heard of as their browser), using a dedicated graphics processor for UI transitions, etc. The new native WebKit browser will be 40% faster than OS6’s, and twice as fast as OS5’s. Check out our previous coverage for more details on the new operating system.
Speaking on the launch of the latest generation of BlackBerry smartphones, Mike Lazaridis, Co-CEO of Research in Motion, said:
“This is the largest global launch of BlackBerry smartphones in our history. The BlackBerry solution offers a best-in-class mobile communications experience that customers love and we think they will be thrilled by the faster performance, enhanced browsing and richer multimedia delivered by these powerful new BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Torch smartphones.”
