Analysts believe that the offer could be extended in order to attract more subscribers
Reliance Jio may extend its offer of free phone services till March next year. According to a report by the Live Mint, Motilal Oswal analysts have noted that the Jio Welcome Offer could be extended, in order to attract subscribers. The publication also quotes Anshuman Thakur, Head of Strategy and Planning at Reliance Jio saying, “We have told Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and government that customers have faced issues with regard to the quality of service due to the interconnection congestion and they have not been able to enjoy the services that they deserve and what we want to deliver to them. And till we are in a position where we can deliver the quality of service as desired by the Jio management, it will be unfair to charge the customer.” Thakur also added that Jio does not need permission from TRAI to extend its free services beyond December.
To recall, Jio offers it users a Welcome Offer that lets them enjoy free unlimited data till December. On top of this, Jio also offers free voice calling and SMS services. Speaking of which, TRAI recently green lit Jio’s offer of lifetime free voice calling services. The authority stated that Jio’s offer complies with existing rules, and are not discriminatory.
