After days of teasing their upcoming phones, Realme has finally launched its new Realme 5 series of handsets in India. The new lineup consists of the Realme 5 and the Realme 5 Pro smartphones, which are mid-range handsets aimed at capturing more of the smartphone market share from the likes of Xiaomi, Redmi, Samsung and others. The Realme 5 is a slightly less powerful version of the Realme 5 Pro but both the devices come equipped with a quad-camera setup. While the two handsets share some similar specifications, there are plenty of differences between the two.
The Realme 5 Pro is a mid-range handset that is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC and sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with a 90.6 percent screen to body ratio. The display has a waterdrop notch design, where the front camera is housed. The device features a Crystal Design back that is said to have a holographic colour effect and comes in a Sparkling Blue and Crystal Green colour options.
In terms of optics, the Realme 5 Pro comes equipped with a quad camera setup on the back. It consists of an 8MP ultrawide angle lens with f/2.25 aperture lens and 119 degree field of view. There’s also a 48MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor, along with a 2MP portrait lens with f/2.4 lens and a 2MP camera with f/2.4 macro lens. The handset is also said to deliver better low-light images. On the front is a 16MP Sony IMX471 with an f/2.0 aperture, similar to the Realme X.
The Realme 5 Pro comes with up to 8GB RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage . The handset is equipped with HyperBoost 2.0, which is said to enable a more fluid experience while gaming. Backed by a 4035mAh battery, the handset sports a Type-C port and supports VOOC 3.0 charging. VOOC charging is said to top up the handset’s battery to 100 percent in 80 minutes.
The Realme 5 comes in Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple colour options and same as the Realme 5 Pro, features a Crystal Design rear panel. It comes equipped with a 6.5-inch display and is powered by the Snapdragon 665 SoC. The Realme 5 features the same quad camera setup as the Realme 5 Pro, except the 48MP sensor is swapped out for a 12MP main sensor. It features a 5000mAh battery that is touted to deliver about 21 hours of Full HD video playback.
The Realme 5 series apparently come with a fire-proof frame, Overload Protection, Cell Fuse protection and Stainless steel cell isolation safety features. They also come with a splash-resistant coating and run on the latest ColorOS 6. The new ColorOS 6 will feature design updates like new icon design, revamped notification, home page and more. There's also a new hotspot management feature and Google AR Core, along with a real privacy option.
The 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version of the Realme 5 Pro is priced at Rs 13,999, while its 6GB RAM + 64GB model costs Rs 14,999. The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version of the handset is priced at Rs 16,999. The device will be available for purchase from 12PM on September 4 via Realme.com and Flipkart.
The Realme 5 comes in three versions. There’s one 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version that is priced at Rs 9,999, while the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant will cost you Rs 10,999. The 4GB RAM + 128GB storage version of the phone is priced at Rs 11,999. The phone will go on sale at 12PM on August 27 via Flipkart and Realme.com.
For launch offers, Jio users will get to avail benefits worth Rs 7,000 with the handsets, along with a no-cost EMI for six months. One can also avail up to Rs 2,000 cashback when paying via Paytm UPI and get free Paytm First membership worth Rs 750 for free when purchasing the handsets from realme.com.
Realme has also announced the Realme Buds 2 earphones, which comes with a 11.2 mm bass boost driver. Realme Buds 2 will be available for Rs 599 from September 11. There’s also Realme Iconic case for Realme 5 series for Rs 399 and it will go on sale from September 21.
