Details about Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 818 SoC with deca-core CPU have surfaced online.

Qualcomm is reportedly working on a new processor that comes with a deca-core CPU. According to reports, Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 818 SoC will offer four low-powered cores, two mid-range and four high-powered cores.

Other features include Adreno 532 GPU and comes with support for LPDDR4 RAM. The processor will also support LTE Cat-10 speeds using 20nm process Qualcomm hasn't confirmed the reports as yet. The latest set of information comes shortly after rival MediaTek announced MediaTek Helio X20 series of SoCs for high-end devices.

According to reports, MediaTek's Helio will feature 10-core chip including wo 2.5 GHz Cortex A72 cores, along with four 2 GHz Cortex A53 cores and four 1.4 GHz Cortex A53 core. The Helio X20 is set to hit mass production bey end of this year. We can expect a slew of high end of smartphones running Helio by starting next year. The SoC was recently spotted on an AnTuTu benchmark where it scored 70,000 surpassing the likes of Nvidia Tegra.

Competition in the SoC market has continued to heat up with Intel and MediaTek bringing in more competitive chipsets. Though, Qualcomm has continued to dominate the market, its recent Snapdragon 810 didn't succeed especially after Samsung dropped the chipset. HTC also ditched Qualcomm for its flagship One M9 and M9+ .

Intel, on the other hand, has set its sights on the wearable segment which is believed to be a huge market in the near future. Back in March, Intel launched Intel Curie, a low-powered hardware product that can be used in several wearable devices such as rings, bands and glasses. Intel's Curie Module is based on an version of its Quark Chip, called the Quark SE, and features 32-bit microcontroller with 384 kB of flash memory and 80 kB SRAM, Bluetooth LE, low-power sensor hub, six-axis combination accelerometer and gyroscope.
