Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 leak reveals new features ahead of official announcement

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 brings improvements to key smartphone features like camera, battery life and connectivity

Qualcomm is set to share more details about its upcoming SoC for smartphones named Snapdragon 835 at CES 2017 keynote on January 6. Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will power most of the flagship devices launching in the first half of 2017. Ahead of the official announcement, some of the key features or upgrades have leaked online.

Qualcomm has already revealed that Snapdragon 835 is based on new 10nm architecture and is being fabricated by Samsung. According to new leak from Evan Blass, the Snapdragon 835 is claimed as "smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient than any chipset in history." Qualcomm claims the use of Snapdragon 835 will enable manufacturers to bring thinner smartphones with larger batteries.

Qualcomm also claims that Snapdragon 835 brings improvements to other key areas like camera capabilities, battery life, connectivity and security. In terms of battery life, Qualcomm claims improvements in the tune of "1+ day of talk time, 5+ days of music playback, and 7+ hours of 4K video streaming." With Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm will also introduce support for QuickCharge 4 which will offer five hours of battery life with five minutes of charging.

The new Snapdragon 835 is also aimed to bring more immersive AR and VR experience to mobile platform. The SoC brings enhancements to three key areas: accurate audio, vibrant visuals, and intuitive interactions. "Designed to meet VR processing demands within strict thermal and power constraints, Snapdragon 835 offers 25 percent faster 3D graphic rendering and 60X more display colors when compared to Snapdragon 820," Evan Blass cites Qualcomm material.

With Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm is bringing new changes in areas like mobile imaging, security, connectivity and support for machine learning. "With long battery life, immersive experiences, cutting-edge camera capabilities, and gigabit-class download speeds, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor is providing the phenomenal mobile performance power users need and expect."

Qualcomm has not only spoiled its own big launch but also that of Asus by accidentally revealing ZenFone AR, the second Project Tango smartphone. It will be worth waiting to know when will the first set of devices powered by SD835 hitting the market and who takes the crown for delivering first Snapdragon 835 smartphone.
