Qualcomm’s Snapdragon has become as synonymous with smartphone chipsets in the same way that Intel is synonymous with computer processors. Qualcomm recently launched the new Snapdragon 660 platform and according to a recent report by GSMArena, the company is gearing up to launch the Snapdragon 670 in early 2018.

The Snapdragon 670 is expected to be the company’s first 10nm chipset with an Octa-Core Kryo CPU – 2 high power Kryo 360 cores and 6 low power ones. The Kryo 360 will be a third-generation CPU as the Snapdragon 835 and 660 use the second-generation cores.

The report also suggest that the Snapdragon 670 will house ARM’s DynamIQ technology, which features Cortex-A75 and Cortex-A55. This technology will be the successor to the big.LITTLE configuration and is being developed by ARM.

The Snapdragon 660 mobile platform was launched by the company in May 2017 which was an upgrade to the Snapdragon 653. The chipset consists of a quad-core Kryo 260 cluster clocked up to 2.2GHz. The Oppo R11 smartphone was launched in China with the Snapdragon 660 platform.

If the reports prove to be true, this new 10nm chipset will help in increasing power efficiency and improve the overall performance of the smartphone.
