Qualcomm announces new affordable 64-bit Snapdragon chipsets
Qualcomm announces 64-bit Snapdragon 620, 618, 425 and 418 chipsets aimed at affordable mobile devices.
Qualcomm has announced four new chipsets for its partners' upcoming range of affordable smartphones. The company has lifted the covers from the Snapdragon 618, 620, 415, and 425 chipsets. All four chipsets use 64-bit architecture and come with support for 4G LTE networks.
The new Snapdragon 415 and 425 are part of Qualcomm’s 400 series of chipsets. Both chipsets feature octa-core CPUs with clock speeds of 1.4GHz and 1.7GHz respectively. Similarly, the Snapdragon 618 and 620 are part of Qualcomm’s 600 range of chipsets featuring a hexa-core and an octa-core CPU setup respectively. The CPU cores on both the Snapdragon 618 and 620 are clocked at 1.8GHz.
“We are excited to announce the Snapdragon 620 and 618 processors with next-generation graphics, camera, 4K video capture and connectivity, all premium tier features previously only found in our Snapdragon 800 class products. The Snapdragon 620 and 618 also both come with X8 LTE, as does the Snapdragon 425, marking the first time we’ve supported this amazingly fast speed at the 400 tier.” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies.
Qualcomm states that the new chipsets will available for commercial devices by the second half of the year 2015.
