Highlights:
Xiaomi launched the Poco F1 in India at a starting price of Rs 20,999. This pricing was for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant of the phone. Now, the company is offering the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version of the smartphone at the same price of Rs 20,999, down from its launch price of Rs 23,999. This is a limited period offer, which is valid till March 28, and the handset can be bought at the lowered price from Mi.com and Flipkart. While the new offer is to entice new customers into buying the device, the company is also adding the Game Turbo option in MIUI for the POCO F1.
The new Game Turbo mode was announced for the phone at a recent media meet, on March 19. The feature is similar to the Game Booster mode we have seen on many other devices and is aimed at delivering a more consistent frame rate while gaming. It works by clearing background applications and freeing memory for the app running in the foreground. It also comes with options to capture gameplay footage or screenshots and there are quick toggle switches to enable/disable Wi-Fi and more. There is also an option to open a floating window for accessing applications like WhatsApp and Facebook so that one won’t need to exit the game and Xiaomi might add more apps for this feature.
As per FoneArena, the feature can be accessed from the MIUI Security app. It is said to be currently available only for the MIUI Global Beta users and should soon be made available for the MIUI Global Stable ROM.
The POCO F1 was launched as the cheapest Snapdragon 845 SoC phone and the company has been active in seeding constant updates to the device. It recently got the February security patch with the MIUI 10.2.3.0 update but unfortunately, the update didn’t add the Widevine L1 certification to the phone. For those unaware, a phone needs to have Widevine L1 certification to stream HD videos from online streaming services like Amazon Prime Videos, Hotstar and Netflix. Poco got into a soup last year when it launched for lacking the DRM certification to stream content in HD from Netflix. The company was swift to notify users that it's working on offering an OTA update. Last month, Poco announced it's ready to push out the Widevine L1 certification to the Poco F1 and we hope it will arrive to users soon.
