Yesterday, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo posted a teaser on its Weibo page that hints at the release of Oppo R7 Plus FC Barcelona Limited Edition on 8th September. The company became an official partner of the Spanish and European champions earlier in June this year.
In the image that was posted, we can see Messi, Neymar, Adriano, Jordi Alba, Marc Batra, Pique along with Suarez and Iniesta who feature prominently with their kit numbers 9 and 8 respectively, with these two numbers indicating the launch date of September 8th. From what the Chinese media speculates, Oppo will be hosting an event to announce the FC Barcelona Edition of the R7 Plus, which may have something to do with the FC Barcelona team. The Special Edition is expected to have the team’s logo engraved on the back as well as Barca-themed customisations. Hardware specs will be similar to that of a regular R7 Plus.
Released in May, the Oppo R7 Plus is the successor to Oppo R5. It has a 6-inch Full HD display, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It offers 32GB of onboard storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. There is a 13-megapixel primary camera with laser-assisted autofocus and dual-LED flash, along with an 8-megapixel front facing camera. The R7 Plus also features a fingerprint scanner, placed just below the rear camera, and 4100mAh battery. The device is encased in a metallic unibody frame, with curved edges.
It is being seen by many as Oppo’s reply to the Meizu MX5 GuangZhou Evergrande, featuring GuangZhou Evergrande Taobao FC of China. However, the Oppo R7 Plus Barcelona Edition is unlikely to be confined within Chinese shores as the FC Barcelona have a global presence. There has been no word about its pricing for now, but Oppo will be banking on Barca’s image to expand its global reach.
