Oppo recently launched its Reno2 series of smartphones in India and has introduced the phones in China as well. However, the smartphone maker isn’t done just yet as it is working on a new handset, which is confirmed to come equipped with a 90Hz display refresh rate. Oppo’s vice president, Shen Yiren, has confirmed that the company will launch the Oppo Reno Ace smartphone with a 90Hz display refresh rate on October 2019. In addition, the upcoming device will come with fast charging support. Currently, only the name and the two aforementioned features of the handset are confirmed by Oppo.
It seems like a higher refresh rate for displays is becoming a new trend for smartphone makers. This is especially true with ‘gaming’ handsets that are aimed at mobile gamers. However, there are very few titles on smartphones that can take advantage of a high refresh rate. Currently, PUBG Mobile can touch a maximum of 60fps on high-end phones. Additionally, the effects of the higher refresh rate are mostly perceived while navigating around a phone’s UI. While a higher refresh rate is always a good option to have, companies do provide an option to dial it down to conserve the battery.
As mentioned above, the news comes soon after Oppo launched its Oppo Reno2 series of smartphones. The Oppo Reno2 series consists of the standard Reno2, the Reno2 F and the Reno2 Z handsets. The Reno2 is equipped with a 6.55-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display and it runs on the octa-core Snapdragon 730G processor. Its display is protected with Gorilla Glass 6 and there’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor on the phone. Equipped with 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage, the handset also sports memory expansion via an SDcard slot.
