All you need to know about the OnePlusX
We take a brief look at all the leaks and rumours that we have come across so far, before the OnePlus X is officially announced on October 29
Following the success of the OnePlus 2, the Chinese company is gearing up to launch its second smartphone this year, the OnePlus X. There has been a steady stream of leaks over the past few weeks, detailing the specifications of the device, which have often been contradictory in nature. Here’s all that we know about the upcoming OnePlus X smartphone.
Design
Initial leaked renders of the OnePlus X showed a sleek metallic build with speaker grills at the bottom. It also showed twin cameras on the back with dual-LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. Purported images of the device later surfaced which were markedly different from the renders. The fingerprint scanner is not visible on the back and the phone has a single primary camera with flash. Apparently, it will also be IP67 certified for dust and water resistance.
Specifications
The OnePlus X is expected to feature a 5-inch Full HD IPS display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass protection. There has been conflicting reports on the SoC powering the device and the amount of RAM and internal storage that it will feature. A brief listing on Amazon India indicated that the OnePlus X will ship with a MediaTek Helio X10 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and Synaptics ClearForce technology. Several other leaks have suggested that it will instead be powered by a Snapdragon 801 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM. The OnePlus X is expected to pack in a 13-megapixel primary camera as well as a 5 or 8-megapixel front camera. It is expected to run Oxygen OS 3.0, layered on Android Marshmallow v6.0.
Price
Rumours of the pricing details have been remarkably consistent, at $249 (Rs. 16,200 approx.). However, a recently leaked promotional poster tips the price at CNY 1,699 (Rs. 17,400 approx.) in the Chinese market. It isn’t too far off what was speculated and is expected to hover around the 17k mark in India. It is expected to be an Amazon India exclusive.
Release date
Last month, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager of OnePlus India indicated that the company might release the phone by Diwali to cash in on the festive season. OnePlus teased the phone on 12th October, leading to speculations that it will be announced at the event in Bengaluru. The company has now sent out invites for an event on October 29 where it is expected to unveil the OnePlus X. The event in New Delhi kicks off at 1:30 PM IST.
