OnePlus One will get Android Lollipop update in March
OnePlus One users will have a choice to either update to CM12 or to install the homebrewed Oxygen OS ROM in March.
OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has made it clear through a tweet that the OnePlus One will get an Android 5.0 Lollipop update in March. The company which previously announced that all its device will get the Lollipop update within three months is late by almost a month in fulfilling its claims.
The international version of the OnePlus One smartphone will be updated to CM12 (developed by Cyanogen) by next month via an OTA update. The company’s own Oxygen OS will also get its first stable release next month. Therefore, in March OnePlus One users will have a choice to either install the CM12 update or to wipe and start afresh with the Oxygen OS.
Both major updates are based on Android’s 5.0 Lollipop. The CM12 update will bring new Cyanogen features like the theme manager, added button functionalities, CM camera, etc. On the other hand the Oxygen OS will not feature any bonus features as such and will be sticking to a more stock like approach. It should also be noted that the upcoming Oxygen OS might not have a native camera app and could come with the stock Android camera app.
OnePlus revealed on February 12 that its Oxygen OS team is currently developing the Oxygen OS ROM. The team was set up since OnePlus’s current OS partner Cyanogen has signed an exclusive deal with Micromax in India. The team comprises of many members from the Paranoid Android team. We had a short chat with the team earlier about the upcoming ROM and its future plans.
