It’s been a little over two weeks since the final beta build of Android 9 Pie was released and developers are already releasing unofficial ports for various smartphones. The original OnePlus One, OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T are the latest devices to unofficially get the latest Android Pie ports. Like nearly all the unofficial ones till now, the new builds come from Team POSP, via XDA Developers. The new ROM for the OnePlus One is said to be almost fully stable with no major bugs reported as of writing this article, but seeing as the release is marked as beta, there could be some undiscovered bugs. You can download the port for the smartphone here, but do note that flashing it can cause data loss.
As for the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T builds, they are based on pure AOSP Android but are said to be missing some functionalities like VoLTE, NFC and the new navigation gestures that Android 9 brings. However, it seems that the NFC and gesture-based navigation has been fixed now. Do note that flashing these builds would require decryption of the handset if encrypted. There could be additional undiscovered bugs and one is advised not to flash the builds on their primary device. However, as OnePlus One is not eligible for any updates, it seems like waiting for the bugs to be fixed is the best option for the smartphone users right now. You can download the build for the OnePlus 5 here and for the OnePlus 5T here.
The OnePlus X and the OnePlus 2 also recently got unofficial Android 9 Pie ports based on AOSP. To recall, the two smartphones didn’t receive the Android Nougat update, so the new unofficial port seems to be the next best option. OnePlus will update five of its phones to Android P officially. These include the OnePlus 3, 3T, OnePlus 5, 5T and the OnePlus 6. On its forum page OnePlus says, “Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Google on the Android P Beta program. Thanks to everyone’s participation and continued feedback, the progress we have made together has been greatly accelerated. The Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order. We will keep you all updated in the coming months.” You can read more about OnePlus’ official Android updates here.
