OnePlus One gets unofficial Android Nougat build based on CyanogenMod 13
The developer notes that “almost everything works” in the build, except for video hardware encoding, which causes the camera to fail
Android Nougat officially started rolling out to select Nexus devices just a few days ago. However, a developer on XDA-Forums has already created a build for the OnePlus One. The build is based on android-7.0.0_r1, while the kernel is based on CyanogenMod 13 (CM13). The developer notes that “almost everything works” in the build, except for video hardware encoding, which causes the camera to fail. Other known bugs include no LiveDisplay and gestures, except for the Double Tap to Wake feature, which currently cannot be turned off. Since this port doesn’t offer a complete experience, those who use their OnePlus One as their everyday smartphone are advised to be cautious before their try and install it.
The developer notes that this build will only offer a “taste” of Android Nougat and for the complete experience, users are better off waiting for an official release. However, last week it was reported that Qualcomm may not be releasing the graphics drivers for Snapdragon 800 and 801 powered devices like the OnePlus One. So it is possible that this build might be the closest users get to enjoying Android Nougat on their devices. For now, it seems like most OnePlus One users will have to be content with Android Marshmallow, which they got with CM13.
