OnePlus Nord N10 and Nord N100 were launched late in October after the OnePlus 8T, for the US and European markets. The new phones are aimed at the budget and lower mid-range segments and are the company’s attempt in bringing the OnePlus experience to affordable price ranges. Both phones run on OxygenOS 10 out-of-the-box but will be receiving just one version update instead of two.
According to a report by Android Central, a OnePlus spokesperson has confirmed that the Nord N10 and Nord N100 will only receive one major Android update and two years of security update. OnePlus and other smartphone manufacturers generally boast of offering two to three years of version updates along with three years of security patch updates.
In the case of the Nord N10 and Nord N100 that already come running on Android 10 as opposed to OnePlus 8T with Android 11 out-of-the-box, this change in policy means that the N10 and N100 will only get updated to Android 11. Not only does it send across a wrong message to its community members that OnePlus swears by, but it also limits the shelf-life of the phone the company has just put out.
A OnePlus spokesperson told Android Central that “The plan for these two devices aligns with industry standards for smartphones in more affordable price ranges. As always, we will continue listening to feedback from our users and looking for ways to improve the software experience for all OnePlus devices.”
There’s no reason for OnePlus not to provide regular software updates and follow a general update cycle policy across all its phones. It is something that the company is known to do and has been able to attract more users to its products. Now it seems the users of Nord N10 and N100 will have to make do with single Android version update and no more.
