Not convinced with the Snapdragon 810 on the OnePlus 2? We've got good news for you. According to co-founder Carl Pei, the Chinese smartphone maker may unveil a whole new phone by the end of the year. In an interview with USA Today, Pei said that OnePlus will bring a second device this year, most likely around Christmas. Although Pei didn’t confirm the specs, he said that the upcoming device may or may not have higher specs than the recently launched OnePlus 2.
Pei was also asked whether OnePlus plans to expand into other spheres alongside phones. To this, he replied that the company has a vision of working with everyone as partners and make their OxygenOS compatible with “everyone’s stuff”. He said that the company almost took a shot at making a fitness tracker, but scrapped the idea, since it was against OnePlus’ idea of having an open culture. “We want to work with other people. By making our own we are already competing with our potential partners before even approaching them and giving them a chance”, Pei told USA Today.
Pei said that different brands should focus on different things, and that the company isn’t going to make products like a OnePlus TV or Smart Scale. This obviously is a dig at competitor Xiaomi.
OnePlus and Xiaomi have been two of the most talked about companies in the smartphone universe lately. Both the company offer value for money smartphones, cutting costs as much as possible, and have affected companies like Samsung, Motorola and others. Incidentally, the OnePlus One, when launched in India, ate into the sales of the Xiaomi Mi4, which was launched around the same time. Despite the controversies surrounding the OnePlus One, the company managed to ramp up sales in India, making it one of its most important markets.
The next iteration of this phone, the OnePlus 2, was recently launched in India. You can already find analysis of the OnePlus 2's battery life and some other aspects from us. The full review of the OnePlus 2 is coming soon.
