OnePlus is one-upping Google by announcing 4 major Android updates for select phones it will launch next year. Although it hasn’t revealed the names of the smartphones, this is promising for its flagships coming in 2023. Let’s see where OnePlus stands in the Android market when it comes to software update promises.
OnePlus will be offering some of its upcoming phones in 2023 with 4 platform updates. Besides that, those phones are poised to get 5 years of security updates as well. That’s a big promise to come from an Android OEM.
Well, it’s not the only one. Samsung shares the crown of smartphone brands offering the longest OS updates. That is, it also promises 4 years of major Android upgrades for the following phones:
The Android maker Google’s own Pixel 7 series promises only 3 years of OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
Meanwhile, OnePlus’ sister concern Oppo offers 3 OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates.
The other BBK sub-brand Realme assures only 2 years of Android updates while Vivo has not made any broader official commitment.
So, OnePlus’ generosity must be lauded. As we said already, at least the higher-end OnePlus phones should be getting the newly promised update schedule. The brand is yet to announce the names of the phones. But, in time, we should be learning about them.
