OnePlus has been teasing the Android 6.0 update on its Weibo profile. The company has announced that it will be recruiting fans who are interested in beta-testing the new software. The Android 6.0 update will hit the OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X. If information circulating the Internet is to be believed, then the test build will initially run only on the OnePlus 2. So, if you are one interested in participating in the beta, you need to have a OnePlus 2 smartphone.
Users will also have to flash updates on their smartphone twice a week, and will need to be online for at least 30 hours a week. The beta testers will also need to be able to submit bug reports and feedback. Having experience in beta testing is also an advantage for those interested in participating.
The OnePlus One is the only handset that runs on Cyanogen OS, while OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X runs on OnePlus’ own Oxygen OS internationally. The OS is based on Android. For China, however, the OnePlus devices run on Hydrogen OS. Apart from the Google framework, both the Hydrogen OS and the Oxygen OS are quite similar. Oxygen OS gives users a near-stock Android experience, while also giving them a bunch of customisation options. The Weibo post, which revealed the beta test (translated) says, “OnePlus One and OnePlus X users, be patient — you will really enjoy Marshmallow Hydrogen OS.”
The first smartphone to have been launched by OnePlus was the OnePlus One, in 2014. The smartphone was well received thanks to its unique design, great specifications and attractive price point. The OnePlus 2 was also a great smartphone, but couldn’t live up to the hype surrounding it owing to its predecessor. It is, nonetheless, a great smartphone. The OnePlus X, the latest phone to be launched by OnePlus, was received with mixed feedback from consumers. If you are wondering when your smartphone will receive the Android 6.0 update, here is a comprehensive list of all the smartphones scheduled to receive the update.
