OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro sale in India delayed
OnePlus is said to be assembling the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro in the Oppo facility in Greater Noida.
The facility was recently closed as some of the employees tested positive for the Coronavirus.
Production of the phone has apparently been resumed in the plant.
If you were looking to get your hands on the OnePlus 8 or the OnePlus 8 Pro anytime soon, then there is bad news for you. The sale of the two smartphones has been delayed. The information comes via the OnePlus blog post which reads, “In the past couple of weeks, we shared information about pricing for the OnePlus 8 Series 5G in India and about availability and sale dates. Although we were looking to have 29th May as our open sales date for the OnePlus 8 Series 5G, due to unforeseen circumstances, our production was temporarily halted last week and has altered our sales plan. Because of this, we had to reschedule our date for open sales in India. But we’re happy to let you know that production is already back up and running. In order to start bringing the OnePlus 8 Series 5G to you as quickly as possible, we will hold a special limited sale across online and offline channels for the OnePlus 8 5G at 12 PM on 29 May 2020. The new sales schedule for the full OnePlus 8 Series5G lineup – The OnePlus 8 5G and the OnePlus 8 Pro 5G will be out soon. Stay tuned!”
So, there is no clear date as to when the smartphone will go on sale in India, but we can expect clarity for the same in the coming days. There is however a limited sale across online and offline channels for the OnePlus 8 5G at 12 PM on 29 May 2020. The blog post adds that Customers who pre-booked OnePlus 8 Series 5G on Amazon.in and OnePlus stores can purchase devices as and when stocks are available.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro were being assembled in the Oppo facility in Greater Noida. Due to some employees testing positive for the Coronavirus, production at the plant had to stop. It is however said that production at the plant has started again. This halting of production could be the reason for the delay in the sale of the smartphone.
Speaking of the price of the OnePlus devices, the OnePlus 8 base variant with 6GB+128GB storage starts at Rs 41,999. The mid-variant of the OnePlus 8 with 8GB RAM+128GB storage is priced at Rs 44,999 while the top variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at Rs 49,999. The OnePlus 8 Pro with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage starts at Rs 54,999 while the top variant with 12GB RAM + 256GB storage starts Rs 59,999.

When the Greater Noida facility was shut down, OnePlus issued a statement that reads, “The health and wellbeing of our employees, partners and contractors remain our top priority. We are closely monitoring the current situation while ensuring necessary measures are being implemented in accordance with the Government’s instructions. In line with our recent sale announcements for the OnePlus 8 series 5G, we are moving forward with our sales schedule as planned”.
