OnePlus Staff Member has confirmed the company is working on an OTA update for the device.

HDR effect and Nightscape mode will be updated in the next OTA update.

OnePlus 7 Pro is the smartphone manufacturer’s latest attempt at taking on flagships of rival phone makers. The new handset comes equipped with a near-bezel less display design, a pop-up camera and new triple-rear camera setup. OnePlus clearly wants to improve on the imaging quality of its phones but it seems like early buyers of the new handset are split on whether the OnePlus 7 Pro’s camera quality is good or bad. Given the uncertainity on the quality of the OnePlus 7 Pro's camera, a OnePlus Staff Member, Jimmy Z has replied on the forum saying that the OnePlus camera team is working on fixing issues and the next update for the OnePlus 7 Pro will improve its HDR effect and Nightscape mode. Additionally, every system update pushed to the phone is said to features some improvements to its camera.

The news of the upcoming camera optimisations for the OnePlus 7 Pro comes via a new thread on OnePlus forums called “camera quality sucks..”. The thread has sparked some heated conversations between OnePlus 7 Pro users as some say the smartphone is capturing images with washed out colours, lacking details or with too much noise. On the other hand, some other users are vehemently defending it. As we mentioned in our camera review of the phone, “the not-so-surprising performance of the OnePlus 7 Pro camera proves the company still has a long way to go to become the premium device it once dreamed of making obsolete.”

The first OTA update for the OnePlus 7 Pro was recently rolled out, which is 125MB in size and brought a feature called DC dimming. The new feature automatically adjusts the phone’s display brightness as per the ambient environment. Alongside the new feature, the update also brings  Google’s April security patch, improvements to the camera, and some features to the Gaming (Fnatic) mode. While the camera improvement for the phone is simply listed as ‘Optimised photo quality’ in the update’s changelog, Jimmy Z did mention that it was “a significant update for camera.”
