OnePlus is expected to soon announce its next device, which could either be the OnePlus 7 or a completely new 5G smartphone. Same as every year, the company is expected to launch a new device around May and rumours about this upcoming device have started surfacing online. The latest leak comes in the form of an image of the alleged OnePlus 7 smartphone. At first glance, it indeed looks like a not-yet-revealed OnePlus smartphone with no notch and highly reduced bezels. However, this image is fake. Taking a closer look at the image, one will notice that the device looks quite similar to the Oppo Find X but that’s not all. Notice that the buttons are placed way lower than usual along the edge of the device.
It is clear that this is some other phone with the OnePlus theme, icons and background wallpaper applied. Additionally, in a bid to convince internet users, whoever posted this has flipped the phone upside down as we observe from the bezels on the top and the unconventional placing of buttons on the side. This fake image has been making the rounds of the internet for some time now and was recently posted on Slashleaks by a contributor. While Slashleaks usually busts fake leaks, it has not caught on to this fake leak at the time of writing this article. We cranked up the brightness and contrast on the image so that one can easily spot how someone has tried to pass off the phone as the OnePlus 7.
Notice the thicker bezel on the right and the volume and power keys on the lower left side
In a previous leak, an image showcased the alleged OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6T phones side by side. The OnePlus 7 was showcased without any bezels or cutouts for the camera, which suggests that the OnePlus 7 could come equipped with a slider mechanism for the front camera. It also showed off a red coloured alert slider on the OnePlus 7 that is placed on the right side of the display, just above the power button. Another report suggested that the next generation OnePlus could feature faster internal storage speed as it might come equipped with UFS 3.0 storage.
OnePlus has confirmed that it will showcase its 5G smartphone prototype at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2019. The company will make announcements about 5G at the Qualcomm booth with a working prototype of its upcoming 5G handset. OnePlus’ announcement reads – “OnePlus, at Qualcomm’s booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10), invites all to connect and communicate with our community over a 5G network. Attendees will also be able to experience the capabilities of 5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype. Keep an eye out for the limited-edition Qualcomm x OnePlus pin badge, only available at the OnePlus stand.”
OnePlus is expected to launch its 5G smartphone sometime in May 2019. It is rumoured to be more expensive than regular OnePlus flagship phones and could be priced between $200 – $300.
