OnePlus 6T to get a refreshed UI with gesture-based navigation
HIGHLIGHTS

Apart from improved navigation on OxygenOS, the OnePlus 6T is also expected to be more power-efficient.

With the OnePlus 6T already up for pre-orders on Amazon.in, it seems the smartphone is poised for a grand launch. As before, the OnePlus 6T is expected to be OnePlus’ best flagship offering yet, featuring an improved display, beefed-up internals, and an innovative in-display fingerprint scanner. But that’s not all it’s got to offer, we learn now: OnePlus’ software expert Szymon K., confirmed in an interview that the upcoming OnePlus 6T will bring with it “a whole new UI”.

According to the software expert, the changes on the OnePlus 6T’s operating system, OxygenOS, will be the most “intuitive and distinctive”. The OS will feature an improved camera app, a more advanced Do Not Disturb mode, and new navigation gestures. The OS will also be more power-efficient.

According to OnePlus, not only will the new navigation gestures load faster but will also offer smoother animation and feel more natural and intuitive to use. Swiping up from the bottom in an app will make the app follow your finger to switch between apps. What’s more, Google Assistant can be awoken by pressing and holding the power button for half a second.

OnePlus’ changes to the OxygenOS should allow the user to navigate within the phone’s screens with just one hand. According to report by NewsBytes, a OnePlus’ software executive claimed that these new navigational gestures, along with their related animations, have been tested well over a thousand times to ensure consistency.

Talking about power-efficiency, the OnePlus 6T is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset (the same chipset that does duty currently on the OnePlus 6) and a 3,700mAh battery (a 400mAh bump from the OnePlus 6). To make the smartphone more power-efficient, OnePlus has apparently thrown in an “AI-based algorithm that will allow the phone to learn when you sleep, so it can minimize background usage and reduce power consumption accordingly.” How much of this actually translates to easier navigation and better power-efficiency we’ll learn when we get our hands on the device.
