OnePlus 5T may ditch optical zoom for better low-light photography: Reports

OnePlus is all set to launch its latest smartphone, the OnePlus 5T on November 16 at a global event in New York. Amidst the numerous leaks and rumours, an early camera review by C'T Magazine reports that the new OnePlus 5T won’t come with optical zoom. 

As per the report, the OnePlus 5T is equipped with lenses better suited for low light photography, instead of the optical zoom lens found on the OnePlus 5. It also adds that both the 16MP and the 20MP rear camera sensors of the OnePlus 5T may come with the same focal length and aperture of 27mm and f/1.7 respectively. In contrast, its predecessor is equipped with a 16MP wide-angle lens with f/1.7 aperture and secondary 20MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. 

Due to the larger aperture size on the second sensor, it is expected to capture better low-light photos compared to its predecessor. The secondary sensor will reportedly kick in only while shooting in portrait mode or while taking low-light images.

The OnePlus 5T is tipped to sport a 6-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC and is rumoured to arrive in 6GB/64GB and 8GB/128GB memory variants, which is the same as the OnePlus 5. OnePlus has also confirmed that the smartphone will retain the 3.5mm audio jack and won't support wireless charging.

In terms of pricing, a previous report claimed that the price of the OnePlus 5T will be similar to the OnePlus 5. The OnePlus 5T is expected to be priced at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB/64GB variant and could cost Rs 37,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant.
