Key Highlights:
An image of OnePlus’ upcoming device has leaked on Twitter by tipster Ishan Agarwal and it seems to have been shot inside the company’s boardroom. Going by the image, folks over at OnePlus seem to be working hard on their upcoming device, which shows a rather different design for the rear camera than what we are used to seeing on the company’s handsets. The OnePlus phone can be seen featuring a large circular camera module on the back panel and a couple of physical units can also be seen, one of which is being handled by the company’s CEO, Pete Lau.
Aggarwal says that the device shown off in the image is currently in the designing stage but the final device could look similar. There’s no confirmation if the leaked OnePlus handset is the OnePlus 7 or a separate OnePlus 5G phone. To recall, the smartphone manufacturer has announced that the OnePlus 5G phone will not be a successor to the OnePlus 6T and is supposed to be an entirely different phone. OnePlus has already announced its plans of coming up with a device that runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC and makes use of the X50 modem with the mmWave and sub-6 GHz antenna module to deliver 5G connectivity in select markets like Europe and UK. It is said to cost around $300 more than the OnePlus 6T and could be launched in Q2 next year.

Seeing how most major smartphone makers are flocking to create a 5G device, 5G seems to be on its way to being one of the major buzzwords this coming year. Samsung, Oppo, Lenovo, Huawei and Xiaomi are some of the companies that seem to be working on getting their respective 5G devices up and running, apart from OnePlus. Xiaomi and Oppo have already shown off their phones that work on the 5G network, while leaks of a 5G variant of Samsung’s upcoming S10+ have also surfaced.
The 5G variant of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is said to be ready and is confirmed to be launched running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. The new handset will be unveiled at 2018 China Mobile Global Partner Conference and 5G connectivity on it will be enabled by leveraging Qualcomm's X50 5G modem along with the mmWave and sub-6 GHz antenna module. Oppo, on the other hand, showcased Oppo Find X 5G engineering sample at Global Partners Conference in Guangzhou. The phone is also running on Snapdragon 855 and the X50 5G modem.
