Interestingly, OnePlus has added a Snapdragon 821 SoC, new front camera, and a slightly bigger battery. The OnePlus 3T has a 16MP camera on the front, and 3400 mAh battery, whereas the OnePlus 3 had an 8MP front camera and a 3000 mAh battery.
In terms of appearance and other physical factors, the OnePlus 3T is exactly the same as the OnePlus 3. It seems OnePlus simply wanted to keep its device up to date with the newest possible SoCs in the market. In fact, according to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 821 is about 10% faster than the Snapdragon 820, thanks to a higher clock speed.
While OnePlus has on paper allowed 2.35 GHz clock speed on the SoC, in practice this may not be true. In our reviews of Snapdragon 821-powered smartphones, like the Google Pixel, we found that the clock speed never hits that value in practical usage. This may be true for the OnePlus 3T as well, since the OnePlus 3 itself almost never seems to hit its top clock speeds.
