OnePlus 3T powered by Snapdragon 821 will bring improvements to the already excellent OnePlus 3 smartphone

OnePlus will announce its updated flagship smartphone later today. The smartphone, dubbed OnePlus 3T powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 processor, will bring enhancements to company's already excellent OnePlus 3 flagship. OnePlus 3 was launched in June and it is arguably the best smartphone when it comes to combination of hardware, software and pricing.

With the next smartphone, OnePlus plans to bring the original OnePlus 3 on par with Google's Pixel, one of the few smartphones to be powered by Snapdragon 821. If you are wondering whether processor is all the hype then it is worth noting that OnePlus will also continue using the optic AMOLED display, available on OnePlus 3. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has already confirmed that the company will continue using optic AMOLED panels.

Ahead of the launch, Android Soul has managed to get hold of a render which shows the back of the device being similar to OnePlus 3 and bearing a 'T'on the display. The leak also confirms bump in battery size from 3000mAh to 3300mAh. OnePlus has managed to keep a lot of things secret here. The rumour mill, however, indicates use of 8GB RAM and jump from 64GB ROM to 128GB storage.

Ahead of the official announcement, OnePlus 3T has been listed by Oppomart for $499. The listing also reveals the specifications which confirms the use of Snapdragon 821 clocked at 2.35GHz, 6GB RAM and two models with 64 and 128GB storage. The smartphone is also getting an upgraded Sony IMX398 image sensor with 16MP resolution and f/1.7 aperture for better imaging.

The retailer listing suggests use of 3080mAh battery, which contradicts with Android Soul's leak. Another change is the software which is reportedly running OxygenOS based on Android 6.0 and not Android 7.0 Nougat.

OnePlus has always promised at offering just one flagship every year but a mysterious OnePlus device was spotted on Geekbench recently. The device named OnePlus Pixel was spotted running Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC with 6GB RAM. The smartphone's specifications look similar to OnePlus 3 but the mysterious device runs Android 7.1 Nougat. OnePlus Pixel's specifications make it clear that this device is not the same as the OnePlus 3T.
