Confirming the rumoured specifications, OnePlus has announced that its upcoming OnePlus 2 will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC. Although the Snapdragon 810 has faced heating issues, OnePlus has stated that it has worked closely with Qualcomm to come up with an improved version, that does not heat up.
Naming it as v2.1, OnePlus has revealed some details about the new SoC. The Snapdragon 810 v2.1 will have a layer of thermal gel and graphite over the eight CPU cores. While thermal gel has high heat latency to absorb excessive heat generated from the processors, the graphite layer will help spread the heat away evenly from the processors, instead of being concentrated into one spot. OnePlus will also be including a number of software tunings to ensure that the processor doesn’t overwork and generate too much heat. It claims that the OnePlus 2 will be ‘cooler than ever’, with the improved Snapdragon 810 inside.
OnePlus has also explained how each of the eight cores are of different sizes, and their custom ROM design will be optimised to choose relevant core(s) for different tasks. For instance, one or two of the larger and more powerful cores will be used for hardcore graphics-related usage, while one of the smaller cores will be used for simpler tasks such as texting. This will lead to optimised usage and power consumption, which will also help control processor-generated heat.
OnePlus has also revealed through its blog post that the OnePlus One will be sold for a special discount of Rs. 2,000 on Amazon, for one day. The discount is being given only for the 64GB, Sandstone Black version, and the sale begins midnight tonight. The price cut comes after back-to-back price cuts of Xiaomi Mi 4. While the Mi 4 64GB’s price has recently been dropped to Rs. 19,999, Mi 4 16GB saw its price being slashed to Rs.14,999 yesterday. OnePlus One is presently selling at Rs. 21,998 for the 64GB version, and Rs. 18,998 for the 16GB version.
