Remember how Sony had sold its Vaio brand to Japan Industrial Partners? Well, the erstwhile PC brand may soon turn into a smartphone one. According to reports, the first Vaio smartphone has been certified in Japan. In fact, the device was certified back in December last year, which means it could be much closer to production right now. The model number of the Vaio smartphone is VA-10J, say reports. Only images of the box for this smartphone have surfaced though, the device itself is still a mystery.
The specifications of the device look quite nice, but pricing remains a mystery. The Vaio smartphone has a Snapdragon 410 SoC along with a 13MP rear and 5MP front camera. It also has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The device comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
Although the product is likely to sell only in Japan at first, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine it coming to other countries eventually. Japan Industrial Partners had taken over the Vaio brand from Sony back in the first half of 2014. The Vaio smartphone had been reported earlier as well but what the device will look like is not known yet. The box seems to imply a simple bar design though.
