This is mainly affecting those who are using older flagship variants such as the OnePlus 10 and the OnePlus 9.

Users who are using the OnePlus 10 and the OnePlus 9 now have to deal with dead motherboards. Many users reported how their phones suddenly became unresponsive, with screens going black and no power. A lot of devices have become unusable because of this issue.

Several users shared how their phones experienced lag and overheating, and shut down post that. For some, the phone froze and didn’t respond after a software update. The devices would not charge either. Even when they tried to hard reset and use other troubleshooting methods, their devices did not respond back.

When they went to the service centre, they gave them a hefty repair cosṭ. In one such case, the service centre quoted a repair cost of Rs 42,000. This repair cost now exceeds the price of the actual device in question. And this incident has happened to a lot of people now.

Regarding this motherboard issue, OnePlus has addressed it by saying “We’re sorry to hear about some recent cases where the users are experiencing certain problems with their OnePlus 9 and 10 Pro regarding the motherboard of the device. Our customers’ user experience really matters to us. While we’re still investigating the cause, we want to assure you that we’re committed to resolving this for affected users as quickly as possible. We know motherboard repairs can be costly, but we’re working hard to make them more affordable. We ask that any customers that are affected by a similar issue to get in contact with Customer Service so we can help resolve the situation as soon as possible.

This is the second hardware issue in OnePlus phones to surface recently, though it’s not a new problem. Users of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6 have also reported dead motherboard issues in the past. The high cost of repairs is another major concern, with service centers charging as much as Rs 42,000 to fix older OnePlus flagship phones, which are now worth less than the repair cost.
